The bootstrapped email tool for bootstrapped startups

There are a bazillion email tools out there - so why choose Plunk?

Plunk was made by @driaug_ because he believed that email is still one of the most effective ways to communicate with your customers. He also believes that email should be easy to use and accessible to everyone.

And that includes founders and people building fun projects to help their fellow humans achieve their dreams.

A few months later I, @DagnoloCarlo, joined along to help spread the word.

We both absolutely love the bootstrapped community. It’s full of people who find a niche idea that scratches their itch, and they build the best solution for them. When people resonate, it grows into an amazing new product that otherwise would have never seen the light of day.

That’s also how Plunk was born. Finally a lightweight, easy to use and nicely priced email tool for fellow bootstrappers.

Our product tries to embody the values of the bootstrapped community as closely as possible. No annoying and pricey subscriptions. No bloated features. No useless updates that no one asked for. No gotcha-tactics that leave you hating going with a tool in the first place.

And all the features you need to grow your dream product.

Features for bootstrappers

One tool to rule them all

With Plunk, you don’t need separate tools, multiple APIs and integrations to setup and manage, and different subscriptions to pay. You simply use one, ours. Transactional emails, campaigns and powerful automated actions can all be sent from Plunk.

Scroll through our homepage and read through the featureset.

Speed

We have been, and currently are, in your shoes. You are excited about your product, and want to help people get somewhere as fast as possible. Plunk can be set up in minutes, and thousands of people have done just that. Get started here and watch just how fast you’ll get it set up.

Pricing

We don’t make you pay for contacts or sending from your own domain. You will never get into a position where you lose control over your user experience. With Plunk’s free tier, you can have unlimited contacts and 1000 automated, 1000 transactional and 1000 campaign emails per month.

Should go beyond that, you start paying $0,001 per email. Yes, that’s not a typo. $0,001 per email.

You pay for what you send, period. Should you spend $10 one month, and only $1 the next, that’s all fine with us. You’ll never be in a situation where your money goes to waste on another subscription when using Plunk.

As soon as you upgrade, you’ll get access to analytics and tracking graphs, and you’ll lose the Plunk banner in the footer of your emails.

That banner is our main way of attracting new customers, next to the word of mouth that is generously spread by our users.

We have a lively Discord that’s used for support. By making a post there after signing up, we’ll help you with any question or issue you might have. In our humble opinion, that’s a far better experience than with most email tools out there.

Security, Privacy, and Upkeep

Being bootstrapped is all fine and dandy, but let’s get serious for a second. Can Plunk be trusted? It’s good you ask yourself that. You don’t want to get into a situation where your product or service starts leaking your customer’s data, or functionality drops at the worst possible time.

@driaug_ used to work at Microsoft, and spent a great deal of time working on “The Principles of Sustainable Software Engineering”. Plunk is built extremely sustainably, lowering the emissions and running costs by as much as possible without compromising the usability. You can read that in the full post on sustainability here.

This also makes it extremely lightweight, which helps during set up and why we can keep the cost to send so low.

Next to that, Plunk was coded using the highest level of care and practices. We use solid security features and our databases are backed up multiple times per day to make sure we don’t lose your data.

We also don’t share your data with anyone. It is safe and secure.

Finally, Plunk’s ARR exceeds the monthly upkeep costs. We are not in a position to close our service because of monetary pressure. Should there be a situation where functionality were to go down for other reasons, you’ll be sure to receive ample notifications beforehand.

And, there’s always the following solution:

Self-hosting

New to Plunk is self-hosting. If you want to completely own your sending and flow yourself, you can! Plunk can be self hosted on AWS SES very easily. Follow this self hosting guide on our docs to set that up.

Give Plunk a try

If you’re considering using us for your next project, we encourage you to sign up and just give it a try. It’s completely free, takes minutes, and then you’ll know how we operate. If your not satisfied, give us a note over on Discord or simply close your account and move on.

We wish you the best of luck in setting up and growing your product!
